Location:

Salary/equity:
(n/a, role closed)
Role/industry:
Low-level query optimization / infra
Dev tools / SaaS
Brief description
Early-hire role (6th person, 3rd hire) at a small, highly-technical startup working on optimizing database queries on the cloud in real time. You'd be working primarily on optimizations and infrastructure. ML adjacent, in the sense that the optimizations are partly ML-driven, but they're "overloaded on ML people right now" and want people with more optimization expertise. Interest in formal verification and compilers is a plus.
What the work might look like:
Simulate how much a certain DB query might cost
Build a heuristic algorithm to improve queries
Build or maintain data pipelines between them and clients
What they're looking for
[Required] In-office in NYC (or willing to move there)
[Required] US work authorization. They'll do minimal work to transfer visas but aren't sponsoring them (so no good if you need an H-1B, but a Canadian citizen could get a TN)
[Required] Their interview process involves a work trial, so you'll need to be open to that
[Big plus] Interest or background in formal verification or compilers
[Important] Background in performance engineering
[Important] Startup interest or background
[Important] Worked in a senior capacity, especially building and launching something from 0->1
[Nice to have] Background in Python
What they're offering
Work on a highly technical product
Fairly high salary for a startup (low 200s) and substantial equity
Lots of runway (just raised millions w/small team)
Ex-Google, ex-Apple coworkers
Varied and flexible work, high impact on company trajectory
This is us editorializing, but the fact that they price based on savings is a big plus. That's a really strong statement about incentive alignment.
