Brief description
This is a mid-level React Native mobile development role for a company building tools for gig drivers. They allow drivers to coordinate across multiple apps (e.g. driving for both Uber and Lyft), optimize their earnings, etc. While this is mobile development, they are OK with people whose experience is primarily with React for webdev, as long as you're willing to learn the parts that deal with native development (e.g. Firebase).
They are a somewhat atypical startup: they focus on stability and steady growth, work fairly reliable 40-and-change hour weeks with no expectation of staying over, and they care more about code quality than is typical (they want to ship experimental features quickly for tests, but maintain stability for the core app).
This role is in-office 4d/week in San Francisco. Their office is located in SF's Mission, close to transit.
What they're looking for
[Required]
Open to working in-office from their SF office.
3+ years of not necessarily professional engineering experience. If you're a skilled engineer who has been building stuff on your own, that counts.
You do need to be independent enough to not need external support to get things done. Don't expect a lot of mentorship.
Some tangible evidence of excellence in any sphere (not necessarily technical). If you've built an organization, run your own app, speak seven languages, whatever - just be ready to talk about it.
Strong written and verbal English communication.
Experience (not necessarily professional) with React in some form. Lots of webdev use is OK, as long as you're willing to learn the mobile components.
[Nice-to-have]
Experience with React Native and mobile back-ends. You'll need to learn this quickly if you haven't done it before.
Previous work at a startup.
Previous experience with gig work or ridesharing, either building it or using it. Ideally, you'd be willing to dogfood their product a bit by signing up as a driver and testing it in the wild.
Previous experience with React Native mobile development on a small team, ideally with an app reviewable on e.g. github.
What they're offering
Salary: $140-220k
Equity: likely none. This is a more mature team focused on sustainability.
Startup flexibility but an established (6y old) company with a sustainable, profitable product.
An office building shared with many other startups. Great for networking over lunch or just getting plugged in to the SF tech scene.
Reasonable work-life balance. Go home at 5:30 on Friday and don't expect to work until next Monday.
