Back-end engineer (junior-mid)
Location:
In-office
NYC
Salary/equity:
$170k-250k
(pending confirmation)
Role/industry:
Back-end
Industrial control / dev tooling
Exp. floor:
1 year (soft, see text)
Brief description
This is a junior-to-mid-level backend role for a startup building dev tooling for industrial automation. Their product is half a context-specific, AI-assisted dev environment built around industrial contexts, and half low-latency fault-tolerant infra built around the real-time needs of industrial control.
The role itself is exclusively on the back-end. On the dev-environment side, you'll be figuring out how to represent (often poorly-documented) industrial systems with more manageable and unified ontologies for developers to work with. On the infra side, you'll be thinking about performance, correctness, and fault tolerance for systems where a failure doesn't just take the website down for five minutes.
This role is in-office in New York City. They're willing to offer relocation assistance, but are not open to remote candidates.
What they're looking for
[Required]
Some experience with back-end development. There's not a hard number here, we're listing it as 1+ years to indicate that it's not wholly entry level.
A strong result on our interview, particularly coding.
Willing to work in-office in NYC.
The general "quick/high-intellectual-horsepower/work-with-ambiguity" things every startup wants.
[Nice-to-have]
Interest in, and ideally concrete work with, modern AI
Familiarity with semantic modeling/graph-like relationships
Exposure to dev infra, e.g. deployment pipelines
What they're offering
Salary: $175k-250k
Relocation assistance if you don't already live in NYC.
