What Otherbranch is
This is the clean-plaintext version of what we do. If you want the nicer page, click here.
We're a technical recruiting firm for software engineers who want to work at startups. We're founded and operated by a team of former Triplebyte employees who liked what early Triplebyte was doing, and we're trying to rebuild something like it.
We are different from most recruiters because:
We start with an interview. No selling how you're Very Familiar With HTML And Javascript. We check for minimal requirements, then let technical results do the talking.
We guarantee feedback no matter how you do on the interview.
We vouch for your skills, which means that you get to skip past the resume-pile stage of hiring.
We don't spam you with irrelevant jobs. When we reach out with a job, engineers are interested 43% of the time (and when they aren't, it is usually because they had a preference they hadn't told us about).

How getting a job with us works
Start by signing up. That will hook up all of your info where it needs to be on our end. You'll get a confirmation email afterward (if you don't, reach out to candidates@otherbranch.com - something has gone wrong).
From there, you will only hear from us if either (a) we have a job for you or (b) we need to follow up on your background or what you're looking for. We don't do engagement drip emails.
Once we reach out, we'll offer you a booking link for our interview. The interview is 90 minutes long over a video call with one of our engineers. You'll usually get results back within a business day or two. Regardless of the result, we will give you a detailed breakdown of how you did so that you walk away with some useful feedback.
If you pass our interview, we'll recommend you to the job we reached out for (and we'll review others with you as well). Companies usually (>75%) move forward with people we recommend to them. You only need to interview with us once - it stays good for other companies that hire through us for at least a year (and probably longer than that).
From there, you continue with the companies' hiring processes, usually skipping a few early steps.
FAQ
What's on your interview?
Our interview is 90 minutes long and covers three sections: coding, conceptual knowledge, and system design. You can find more detail on the interview content here.
Does it cost anything?
We're completely free for engineers. For employers, we charge 20% of first years' salary on hire.
What kind of companies do you work with?
We're not closed to other companies, but we primarily work with early-stage tech startups within the United States. We sometimes have roles open to candidates outside North America, but that is unusual.
Will you spam me?
Nope. We'll email you only if we have a job for you, if we need to follow up on your background or interests, or rarely when we have important information we think you'd want to know about. We do not do engagement email spam or "grooming" campaigns.
